History

The Richview Baptist Foundation was incorporated in 1980 as an extension of the Richview Baptist Church’s ministry to the community. The Foundation established two social housing buildings in the Etobicoke area which came to be known as the Richview Residence.

Over time, the Board of Directors of the Foundation, committed to an ‘aging-in-place’ philosophy, were becoming increasingly concerned about growing frailty within the community which had necessitated a number of tenants to relocate to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

After several years of discussion with the Ministry of Health, Long-Term Care Division, the Foundation responded to a request for proposals from the Toronto District Health Council for supportive housing funds. In April, 1995, the Foundation received funding from the Long-Term Care Division to establish a supportive housing program on-site. In following directives set out by the government on de-linking tenancy from services, the Richview Residence Supportive Housing Corporation was established on June 7, 1996 as a separate organization from the Foundation. The first directors of the corporation were instrumental in setting policies, procedures and the governance structure: Mr. Paul Benson, Mrs. Sharon Mitchell, Mr. Bruce Bassett, Mr. Paul Redlich, Dr. Alexander Henderson and Mr. Edgar Jeanes.

Founding staff of the corporation, Ms. Linda Hill and Mr. James McMurray, had a strong impact on forming the organization’s culture and values which continue to this day. On May 13, 2010 the name of our organization was changed to Richview Community Care Services Corporation to reflect our expanded services to both the tenants of Richview Residence and the Central West LHIN community. We employ a highly competent, diverse staff, promote quality services and above all strive to treat frailer adults as full citizens with the right to self-determine how they live their lives.
